Why You Should Plan a Multi-Day Wedding in Hawaii
It should come as no surprise that many couples year after year choose to celebrate their weddings here on the islands of Hawaii. From pristine sandy beaches, to its lush and vibrant mountains, the stunning settings alone are enough to attract a wide array of couples looking to celebrate their love in paradise. Add in the stunning and luxurious wedding venues found throughout the islands, and that appeal becomes even more apparent. With all that being said, who's to say your wedding has to be a single moment of celebration. Multi-day weddings are on the rise in popularity, and here in Hawaii there are so many reasons to consider having one yourselves!
What is a Multi-Day Wedding
First and foremost, what exactly is a multi-day wedding? The name itself is pretty self explanatory as it really just comes down to spreading your wedding day festivities across multiple days. This can take a variety of different shapes, but generally speaking a multi-day wedding takes place over the course of 2 to 4 days. Those days typically will look something like:
Day 1: A Welcome Dinner with Everyone Settling In
Day 2: A Rehearsal with a Dinner to Follow, with Some Sort of Group Activity(s) During the Day
Day 3: The Wedding Day Itself
Day 4: A Celebratory Brunch to Thank Everyone for Coming
Usually this extra time is spent with just your wedding party members and your close family, but you can extend it to include whoever you want.
Why You Should Plan a Multi-Day Wedding
More Time with Those You Love
One of the most apparent benefits of planning a multi-day wedding here in Hawaii is getting to spend more quality time with your favorite people. If you’ve been a member of a wedding party before you know just how fast the day can fly by, and that feeling is even more present when it’s your wedding day. No matter how much time and flexibility you plan into the day, it always feels like it isn’t enough. These extra days, surrounded by your closest friends and most beloved family members, give you time to truly enjoy the company of those you love most.
Immerse Yourself in the Wedding Experience
This feeling of not having enough time during a wedding can lead to some couples feeling detached from their day in a way. With the amount of planning and pressure that goes into a wedding day it can sometimes lead to couples worrying more about how the day is flowing rather than being present and enjoying themselves. A multi-day wedding gives you room to breathe. It allows you to relax, knowing you have plenty of time. There’s no need to rush around and worry about every little detail, and instead you can actually enjoy this time here in paradise.
To help with this, I also encourage couples to book a wedding venue that allows you and your chosen guests to celebrate all at one location. Many of my favorite luxury wedding venues are perfect for this, such as Andaz Maui or the Four Seasons Oahu.
More Moments to Enjoy Together
Your multi-day wedding doesn’t just allow you to spend more time with your friends and family, but also with the love of your life. All those feelings I mentioned above of not having enough time on your wedding day all hold true when it comes to time with your partner as well. A celebration spread across multiple days means the two of you can slow down, be present and intentional with one another, and really enjoy this time as you begin the next chapter of life at one another’s side!
Quick Tips for Planning a Multi-Day Wedding in Hawaii
Hire a Wedding Planner
Multi-day weddings are some of the most fun and unique ways to celebrate your love on the islands of Hawaii, but there is quite a bit of planning that goes into them. The logistics of a single wedding day is already enough for many couples, and when you add in extra days on top of that it can feel a little overwhelming. I’m a huge proponent of wedding planners in general, but this is especially the case when there are multiple days that require planning.
Be Thorough in Your Timeline Creation
Much in the same vein as above, a wedding celebration that spans multiple days is going to require a timeline that takes more into consideration than a standard wedding day. This is another area where having a wedding planner will be a lifesaver, as they can help to create an airtight timeline for each day. Your timeline is the framework that your entire wedding day is built from, so make sure yours is solid from top to bottom!
Let Your Guests Know Early
Multi-day weddings are understandably a much bigger commitment for everyone. The great news about planning one here on the islands of Hawaii is that guests usually plan to make a vacation out of their time here on the islands for your wedding anyway. Even still, letting your guests who will be present for multiple days know well ahead of time is crucial for planning purposes.
