Film VS Digital Photography / What’s the difference?

Hi, I'm Sheyanne a wedding photographer based in Hawaii & California. I am so glad you're here!

There are SO many decisions to make when you’re wedding planning, and adding film photography to your wedding package is one of them. I always want my couples to be confident in their decision to include film as part of their wedding day, so in case the photos don’t speak for themselves, let’s break it down!

Film versus digital transcends way more than just technology. It’s about the feeling, aesthetic, and experience you want to capture for your dream celebration. Both are incredible but there’s always been something so special about having film alongside digital photos for your wedding day.

Film Photography: Timeless Elegance

Film photography evokes a nostalgic charm, rendering your wedding in a softer, more ethereal light. The limited number of exposures per roll encourages a slower, more deliberate approach, creating images that prioritize composition and emotional resonance. Each photograph becomes its own piece of artwork, with a touch of a natural and raw feel. Film’s unique color palette and subtle grain add a timeless elegance that transcends fleeting trends, making your wedding photos feel as captivating as the moment itself. It’s honestly like a hug for your senses and I couldn’t rave enough about how much it can elevate your wedding gallery.

Digital Photography: Modern FEEL

Digital photos have dominated the wedding photography scene for quite some time now, but I am loving seeing more diverse approaches when it comes to digital shooting principles and editing techniques. It’s honestly tried and true – digital cameras excel at capturing the day’s vibrant details with such beautiful clarity. You’ll receive a comprehensive collection of moments, from the radiant smiles during vows to the unbridled joy on the dance floor. Digital photography is super flexible and allows for a dynamic and efficient capture of your wedding’s beautiful experience.

The Duo: Film and Digital

I couldn’t recommend adding film alongside digital enough to my couples. It adds such a romantic, sentimental, and emotive feel to your photos. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind way to incorporate an artistic and nostalgic element into your wedding gallery!
